Vertical Clearance - Updated 10/15/2023

This program documents the vertical clearance for bridges.

Input Variables:

Project Data Setup - Defines the project file containing horizontal and vertical alignments.

Import Project - Press the Choose File button. A file selection menu will appear to load the project file.

Proj Name - Once the project file is selected, the project name will be displayed. Or press the Select button for a new project.

Description - Input any overall descriptive text to be printed with the vertical clearance output.

Action Bar -

Run Button - Runs data in the vertical clearance table.

Clear All Button - Clears and resets the entire page.

Print Button - Prints the vertical clearance output.

Close Button - Closes the vertical clearance program.

Vertical Clearance Table -

Point Name:

Enter a unique name for the vertical clearance point. Up to four points can be run.

Upper Roadway:

Critical Station:

Input the station of the vertical clearance point.

Rdwy PGL Elev:

Input the PGL elevation of the vertical clearance point.

Template Drift:

Template Drift is the difference in elevation between the PGL and vertical clearance point (ft.)

Critical Elevation:

The elevation at the vertical clearance point.

Lower Roadway:

Critical Station:

Input the station of the vertical clearance point.

Rdwy PGL Elev:

Input the PGL elevation of the vertical clearance point.

Template Drift:

Template Drift is the difference in elevation between the PGL and vertical clearance point (ft).

Critical Elevation:

The elevation at the vertical clearance point.

Bridge Depth:

Input the bridge depth (ft). This is the total structure depth at the vertical clearance point including the deck, huanch, pads beams, etc.

Clearance:

Calc Clearance:

This is the calculated or actual clearance (ft). It is either calculated when Run is pressed or is a known value can be directly input.

Req'd Min Clearance:

Input the minimum clearance criteria. For a bridge this is typically 16 - 16.5 (ft).

Excess Clearance:

This is the difference between the calculated clearance and the required minimum clearance (ft).

Notes:

Enter any specific note associated with the point name.

Calculates an elevation at a given station on a profile.

Upper Template

Finds at template shift at a given offset on a template.

Lower Profile

Calculates an elevation at a given station on a profile.

Lower Template

Finds at template shift at a given offset on a template.

BL-BL Isct

Calculates the intersection(s) of two horizontal alignments.
